Cardinals Community Mourns Loss of Tom Taylor

Catonsville, Md. – Among the most successful CCBC coaches ever, Tom Taylor was known for tirelessly helping the underdog student or young person with whatever troubled them. Coach Taylor sadly passed away early Monday morning. He was 71.

Taylor was inducted into the 2013 CCBC Athletics Hall of Famer class. A former long-time CCBC Catonsville head women's soccer and head women's lacrosse coach, he was a beloved member of the CCBC Athletics family for his hard work and dedication on and off the field.

Taylor coached a CCBC-record six national championship teams. With a career 124-43 (.742) record, he led CCBC Catonsville teams to NJCAA Women's Lacrosse Championships in 2001-2005 and 2008. While coaching 26 NJCAA All-Americans over 14 seasons, his teams earned three NJCAA Region XX (2008-2010) and eight Maryland JUCO Conference (2001-2003, 2005, 2006, 2008-2010) lacrosse titles.

In women's soccer, Taylor took a team that finished 1-13 in 1990 and turned them into the 1991 NJCAA Division I National runner-up. His soccer teams earned three NJCAA Tournament appearances (1991, 1992, 1995), two NJCAA Region XX crowns (1991, 1995), and one Maryland JUCO Conference title (1999). He coached 10 NJCAA All-Americans, amassed a 118-56-7 career record (.678) and secured a top-10 national ranking eight straight times over 10 career seasons (1990-2000).

Taylor excelled in soccer collegiately at the University of Baltimore, earning his Bachelor of Education degree there in 1972. He received his Master of Education degree in Special Education from Coppin State University (Baltimore, Md.) in 1978.
